The Kaiser stood rigidly in the cold morning air, his uniform immaculate despite the pigeons’ best efforts. His gaze swept over the horizon with theatrical profundity, as though history itself awaited his next deeply significant thought – which at present involved hats. Nations might teeter on the brink, but by God, the mustache would remain perfectly waxed.
